Duracell - which one ?

Time to change the PP3 batteries in four smoke alarms and may as well do the Fluke and the Dy-tone at the same time
A quick look on the net shows, Duracell Power Plus, Ultra Power, Industrial, Duralock and Plus Power.
Which one should I choose or buy another brand without the confusing choice?

I go Industrial, and buy them from RScomponents so I know they are genuine, as there are MANY Chinese copies on the market

Is there ANY independent testing and verification of battery manufacturer claims? Beyond all of the fancy promising names I have yet to see any actual amp hours mentioned on any battery packaging. - Surely that would be a nice simple measure of actual capacity. The fact that it never appears makes me suspicious that we are all getting ripped off.

Torchythebatteryboy certainly checks manufacturers claims on 18650 batteries, he may do AA too. He knows his stuff

Well, if Duracell is good enough for Mercedes..........

For all my gadgets I tend to use either Duracell Plus Power which I get in Costco, or for low drain/less important items, their own Kirkland branded equivalents. Admittedly the latter don't seem to last as long, but for cordless mice etc they're OK at the price.

I find Costco is the place for Duracells and they are one of the most common products on promotion.

I think a pack of 8-10 PP3 cost the same as two in normal places.

Ive tried a few of the options and I cant really say one is better.....I just go on ebay and buy those with the long sell by date...or is it best before

Lidl’s “Aerocell” brand batteries are pretty good, they seem to last very well.

And how do you know if what you are buying is what it purports to be? Many fakes being sold. There was a recent article on the uk-DIY newsgroup about uk plug fuses - 80 of the test purchases were fakes, some extremely dangerous, and all visually excellent.

Which is why for critical things like smoke alarms, and CNC controller RAM backup I buy from RSComponents.

Youre right I dont....but I havent had any that have failed......I usually buy off the same people, theres 2 or 3 of them. There are cheaper advertised but I stick with those ive used before. Mostly they are in boxes but I have had some that were loose in a bag...I was a bit suspicious of those but they seem to work well and last long enough.

I tend to use Toolstation for Duracell batteries, they sell the Industrial and the Plus versions.
