I wonder how long before they come up with the idea of making UNDERGROUND cabling mandatory. That should cause a fuss.Took a fence panel down before it left under sail lol and been on the genset since midday friday so got of lightly compared to some.
Got to wonder how the gov thinks we will be all electric if a couple of hours of medium strength winds knocks the grid out for 3 days plus.
I bet these guys wished they'd used diagonal bracing...

This is just down the road from me. Reckon the road will be closed for a week it's so unstable. Just when the school's go back.
I can't see how the school will be able to open. They can't funnel all the traffic down the little lanes and there are a lot of pupils that come from beyond walking distance.
Yes that's roughly what I meant, the Met Office is mistakenly trying to compete with other online sources of weather info, (of which there are many excellent examples, eg Windy).
And another thing, the culture of naming storms is an unwelcome (to me at least) import from the USA. In the States, storms arguably deserve names because they can be huge and devastating, and regularly destroy lives and infrastucture, whether farmland or whole cities, New Orleans is a notorious example. (Also many Americans are functionally illiterate, and need simple labels.)
Over here, the damage is *relatively* rare and insignificant (not to denigrate those who are affected, mainly mariners and farmers who are dependent on the weather for their livelihoods).
Also giving storms (deep Atlantic depressions) silly names accelerates the infantilising, or dumbing down, of the basic knowledge of basic weather which until recently has been part of British life.
(Perhaps I should have posted in Codgers' Corner, instead of here..)
This is what happens when the grids on the lane are full of carp, which is always. I usually end up emptying them. There's a big grid I installed at the top right of the steps with a 6" drain, this is the excess that jumps over a 6" stone lip below the grid. There will be another couple of barrows full of top dressing gravel in the sump by now.

Ey up, someone's missing a pontoon, winch, diesel cube etc. I hope they had the cap screwed tight onto that cube...
Think that's here: https://www.google.com/maps/place/M...f8385bb9e0230a5!8m2!3d53.8041446!4d-1.5799151
To give you an idea of the normal river height (and the flooding by the time of that video had already ripped the railings off the top).
Yes, they were torn away earlier. There is another picture of it with them half hanging off.The one in the video has no railings, it looks like the next one down in the map might be the one that got destroyed.
