Yeah but what I think he means is, they keep trying to be sensational using headlines that misrepresent the truth, instead of just reporting the news.

Yes that's roughly what I meant, the Met Office is mistakenly trying to compete with other online sources of weather info, (of which there are many excellent examples, eg Windy).
And another thing, the culture of naming storms is an unwelcome (to me at least) import from the USA. In the States, storms arguably deserve names because they can be huge and devastating, and regularly destroy lives and infrastucture, whether farmland or whole cities, New Orleans is a notorious example. (Also many Americans are functionally illiterate, and need simple labels.)
Over here, the damage is *relatively* rare and insignificant (not to denigrate those who are affected, mainly mariners and farmers who are dependent on the weather for their livelihoods).
Also giving storms (deep Atlantic depressions) silly names accelerates the infantilising, or dumbing down, of the basic knowledge of basic weather which until recently has been part of British life.

30 might be a bit pessimistic - think it’s a bit more than that (a quick google suggests 55mph and above is the cut off point…)

Ok, I’ve found out. It’s a 53mph average over 10 minutes, this came from my pal who is a wind farm manager. It must be windier here than I thought, the wind mills are shut down an awful lot

Speaking of weather reports, there was talk (not sure if is true) about a weather presenter who had a malfunction with their Fuzzy Felt weather map, some letters refusing to stay put.
Apparently she was embarrassed by yet another letter falling off and said; "I'm sorry about the "F" in Fog.

I never understood why they have to be braked. Surely you can just a, feather the blades, or b, point them a bit away from the wind, in either case they would keep working, they just wouldn't overload. I've seen really simple designs where the turbine tail was mounted at a slight angle and the turbine was mounted on an offset, so a high windspeed would push it away from the direction of the wind, without any clever control system. Given that commercial systems have massive computing power behind them, it really shouldn't be that hard...
