Following on from @eLuSiVeMiTe’s post regarding CutWel’s offer of buy two get one free for Insize measuring tools.

Not being able to pick the items up and see what fits what is a little off putting, and in all honesty it’s been 20 odd years since I last played with a lathe and any real measuring tools.

So..not wanting to spend an arm and a leg, but secretly knowing I will, looking for a little bit of guidance as to what fits and what won’t.

Do I need lug back or flat back DTI?

Depends on the stand. Got a link to the stand mate.
Both my stands attach via a lug on the back.

Some attach via the stem.

Having a lug on the back just gives you an extra option for mounting.

A follow up on there quality would be appreciated. Think the offer is on till the end of the month.
If the few items I'm watching on the bay fall through il be spending a bit with them.

Looks to be the same magnetic stand that MSC Industrial sell for about £11 when it's on special. I've got several of these, saves having to change over from dial gauge to DTI or whatever. Quality is OK, BUT not up there with older Eclipse magnetic stands.

dont buy cheap stands, the one time it falls over it will knacker the DTI, granted you might get lucky the first few times but is it worth it?
having to calibrate these things after theyve had a knock is a pain in the butt and often scraps the DTI

and if you do buy a second hand eclipse base watch out because they can loose there magnetism. test it 1st

Banggood do a copy of the well respected Noga dti stands, and the copies seem decent and at a good price.

Often get that on bang good. Two listings for seemingly identical items and one is considerably cheaper.

I think it’s important to buy a high quality one. At the end of the day your dial is capable of reading runout down to 0.01mm or less so connecting it to the most sturdy point possible is pretty crucial for the best results.
I like eclipse bases best personally but mitutoyo, Noga, Merca, starret etc are all worth a good look.

I bought one of these for one of my stands https://www.banggood.com/Universal-...VCh3xeACREAQYBSABEgKe2fD_BwE&cur_warehouse=CN I have 4 altogether a couple of snake ones and 2 rod with nuts on eclipe stands the bangood one is easier to manoeuvre and more robust than both of the others I have one turn of the knob in the middle loosens top and bottom swivel and length of the rods in one go
