Dry Ridge / Hip

Evening,

My concrete tiled garage roof is a bit tired. Done by the previous owner, not a roofer.

There's a ridge and two hips. The mortar is pretty shot tbh, a weak mix originally maybe?

Immediately I was going to fit a dry ridge and maybe hip. Any good (cheap?) makes worth a look? Maybe later rip it off and re felt and tile.

Dry ridge and hips the way forward...must clean the tile though so the under-curtain sticks and you need to run a 2x2 up the center of hip and along ridge to catch the fixing screws..when you re-roof you can just dismantle and re-use...btw not a good place to park the car when taking ridge tiles off

Thanks. So the under curtain is self adhesive? Will that "peel off" to reuse?

Any goto make I should look at?

The felt at the apex, under the ridge tiles is a bit holed, like there was never any support. Tbh I only noticed it was holed when I was in there with the lights off.

There is no ridge board per se. Does the 2x2 sit atop the trusses or is it short lengths between each truss? I could likely route a V in the bottom of the 2x2 so it sits better.

Thats the old 1F under felt and is only hessian based so it rots and sags ( common on truss construction back in the day)..fix your ridge 2x2 across the full length on top of trusses. the under curtain should lift if re-used but worst case it can be bought as a separate item in future if its damaged. depending on tile choice in future you may need to increase timber height on ridge and hip (for instance using a bold roll type tile or double roman)

Atm ridge tiles are a bit hard to obtain depending on type..spin off from the Rona saga

Materials shortage? Try getting cement round here!

I can clean up and reuse the old ridge tiles can't I? Think I've some spares kicking around here too...

I thought about stripping the battens off, a couple either side at the top and redoing the felt either side if I'm taking the ridge off anyway. I've a roll of this if it's any good?

You might not get good salvage from ridge by the time you have cleaned them but yes they can be reused..yep that breathable is perfect for top

@roofman evening, can I do my ridge first and the hips later?

Looking up in the garage tonight and the felt at the ridge has 'dropped' in places. Without taking the ridge tiles off it looks like the cement that was used to bed the ridge tiles on has fallen in and is weighing down on the felt.

You could but when you run your hips up at a later date you would have to re-do your mitres at the top

I'm confused!

With these dry ridge/hip systems, it really seems to go against common sense to puncture the roofing felt with the clips that hold the tile batten spine on?

I don't anyway have a ridge board so will need to put the clips on the tops of the trusses.

We dont use the clips...just fire a 2 12" nail through the batton into the ridge tree and the hip..will never leak believe me

Cheers. Cards on the table I'd like to able to do just the ridge immediately, renewing the top section of felt from the gable end to where the hip starts.

I think the garage was built in the late 80s.
