drum brakes

this is for Ifor Williams/Knott drum brakes but I'm guessing it will apply to others

with the bolt on backing plates you can install then 4 ways...with the adjuster either at the top, bottom, left or right....'proper' way is with the adjuster on the bottom but does it make a difference to how they function if they were on any of the other 3 ways?

Won't the cable foul on the arm in at least 2 of the other positions?

maybe on some models? this is on a flatbed with leaf springs

Is there a reason why you don't want to put them the correct way?

just wondering the reasons....I say 'proper' as I'm not sure if there is a 'proper' way

adjuster/cable to the sides in this vid...

Just been and checked mine, cable entry is on the trailing side and the adjuster is on the leading edge.

So when looking at the outside of the drum from the wheel side the adjuster is on the right on a right hand side and on the left on the left hand side

So they are the same as the ones in the video

Mine are as per the utube image above. Makes sense really for the cable routing

cheers...they're def with the cables/adjuster top and bottom on some knott setups, maybe just the indespension type?

the weld on back plates are at an angle...

so doesn't look like it makes any difference other than cable routing/adjuster placement...

From a functionality point of view, it makes no difference what angle the backing plates are fitted, but possible angles are decided by cable/rod routing.
