Dropped kerb white lines

I've seen many a bus drive into cars parked on double yellow lines, the owner of the damaged car can't claim as it was parked illegally.
Does the same apply to private vehicles ? Double yellows outside a mates house and people visiting his neighbours are always parking on them blocking his drive.

Blue badge holders can legally park on double yellows for up to 3 hours.

Parking restrictions in both cases would be irrelevant. Road Traffic Acts cover any public place or any place that the public has access to.

I hope he doesn't take your advice - as its rather wrong!

Parked car owner might get fined for the parking, but the driver of the moving car will be liable for damage - could also argue they should be done for no care and attention - even better if they claim they hit it because it was illegally parked

Got this from the council, don't see any issues as long as I follow the guidelines. There are plenty drives round here with the markings.

Means nothing in law but may deter some idiots from parking badly.

"Dundee City Council do not provide the service of placing white lines at accesses.

You can arrange to have the road marking put on the road by private contractor as long as it meets the required specification."

I'm taking that as consent.

The council contractor the recommended charges £380.

It all helps, as do a few polite signs. That flame on marker tape works well.

Hook a chain on and pull the offending car back onto the highway. Did this years ago and I never had another car parked across my drive again.

Rarely happens in London because they're pretty hot on the fines here and that seems to be deterrent enough.

I think there's a difference between blocking access to a drive and blocking a car on a drive...but good luck getting help!

I've just paid £50 to watford council to have the white line repainted over my workshop drive , they said it would take up to 12 weeks ! , they also told me that as the road is permit parking , anyone with a permit can park across my drive , if I want them moved I'm to phone the council day or night and they will ask the permit holder to move , I asked what to do when someone without a permit parks across the drive ? No answer to that one , I call the police and they are as helpful as they can be , 2 of the offenders have had a ticket issued , the other 2 gotta mouthful from me and moved on ! Too many cars on the road now and not enough parking !

i did that to a prick who blocked my gate every weekend going to the bird next door stopping me getting my motorbike in turned it 45 degree in the road . took him 20 shunts to get it out i did warn him a week previous and asked him nicely not to. he never did it again

My son in law had a gate blocked by a tourist car while they were trying to get in to cut silage. Went home came back and put a bale at each end-of the car, so they couldn't get out. He went out working elsewhere, car was still there next morning, as no one at the farm to move the bales for them.

Where I am all the drop kerbs are registered with the council...quick call and someone on a motorbike comes out and slaps a £60 ticket on it!

I usually give them 30 mins grace before I do that though.
