Dropped kerb white lines

I just had a look at the council web site, they charge £380 ( probably plus vat) to put markings down on the dropped kerb entrance to a drive.

Looking at this....

Seems a much cheaper option.

Has anyone tried themselves?

Regardless if the product is any good you may want to take a look at this Highways act section 132 before commencing any diy markings as it looks like the fine from the council may cost more than there charges.

The "elongated H marking" to identify a vehicular access across a footway is essentially advisory as it is not part of any regulation. If a footway vehicular access is obstructed this is a job for your local police to resolve.

Got this from the council, don't see any issues as long as I follow the guidelines. There are plenty drives round here with the markings.

Means nothing in law but may deter some idiots from parking badly.

I'm taking that as consent.

The private contractor will have operatives who are qualified to work on the road under the New Roads and Streetworks Act (https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...gland-guidance-for-operatives-and-supervisors).

I am not saying do or do not (there is no try), but be aware of the correct way and advise yourself accordingly.

People keep parking across my drive at the workshop so I asked the council to refresh the white line , £50 up front , you have to wait 12 weeks while they get a few jobs and do them all in one go! Turns out it's only advisory , as its a permit parking area, residents can park in front of the drive if they choose to do so , I have to phone the council any time day and night and they will ask the resident to move , as long as they have a permit ! If not I struggle

Guys, were is your "can do" attitude, it seems like "can't do" has been indoctrinated.

It's a couple of white lines that everyone has seen god knows how many times in their lives.

In London dropped kerbs are registered...if they're blocked then you just call the council with a reference number and they come out and ticket.

Problem we have is the council insists on 2.4m drop!

the issue stands we have ignorant drivers that ignore the highway code the police and council who should be doing there duty

but are elsewhere ignoring what needs to be done ( eg school run car parking is one of them )

I even had it from my own niece and her partner we will park on your drive if you want it moved come and find us

The simple answer to anything like this is if you are going to jfdi the only take this route if you haven't already contacted the council.
Same with a drop kerb. The chances of them realizing something is unregistered is pretty much zero. But being the helpful people they are, they do record enquires and check up to makes sure you haven't done something off your own back.
We do a lot of work for local authorities including rectifying work that's been done without consent.

I have a double width side garage I did mine myself bearing in mind the lines were there just very faded think I used some white garage floor paint or something . it is on a side road as my garage is detached and its a corner plot . nobody ever complained certainly wouldn't be paying somebody to that probably a few quid of paint ,

I've seen many a bus drive into cars parked on double yellow lines, the owner of the damaged car can't claim as it was parked illegally.
Does the same apply to private vehicles ? Double yellows outside a mates house and people visiting his neighbours are always parking on them blocking his drive.

Parking restrictions in both cases would be irrelevant. Road Traffic Acts cover any public place or any place that the public has access to.

Well if i can take the bulb out of a irritating street lamp then you can get out there with paint and a brush...get it sorted, some things we need to grasp ourselves or it never gets done. If you get caught tell them Roofman off the internet forced me
