I must be too soft, if I find anything which I suspect is nicked I contact the police and hopefully it will be returned to it's owner and not get into the hands of anyone dishonest.

My personal stance is:

A, how would I feel if something of mine was nicked
B, how would I feel if it got returned to me
C, what shall I do with the kit I have found?-you have said it sir.

I had both the original monkey bike (1963) sold that for £18...also had a 1966 CB72...immaculate...sold for £90...if only.......

MGA, sold for £300 because wife was pregnant & couldn't get in it. To be fair I was happy, I think it was the only car I ever made a profit on

1969 TVR Vixen S2 sold just after full restoration for about 1200 quid to buy a new bathroom for my first house. To be fair it had the grip of Torvil & Dean in all but the driest road conditions so probably extended my life expectancy

1954 Series 1 86" Landrover (original 2L petrol) - MINT! Bought for 325 in '83 and sold for 600 in '84; also a 1956 86" Series 1 with a V8 from a 3500S (now that was 'interesting' to drive... faster off the line than an E-type - don't ask me how I know ) - bought for 300 on the same weekend as the original one & sold for 610 a month after the other one (yep, both for deposit on 1st house). Now look how daft they've gone on price.

Ford Escort Mexico Mk1 with full roll cage and 4 big burn your bumper off Cibie spot lights, think I paid around £700 and made a small loss when I sold it a year later, worth around £30k today

There was many many more, when I was a teen and having a Father in the motor trade I bought and swapped cars and bikes like an idiot.

It's scary thinking of their worth now but of course in those day's the sale of one allowed the purchase of the other.

It was a great era to be young and into cars, the variants were so great not really like today when hot hatches tend to look very alike.

A cantilever toolbox with some spanners and a hammer and you could do anything to them.

I remember me and a mate chopping the roof off a Mini to make a convertible, looked great until we opened both doors together and it collapsed in the middle, seems I had forgotten there was only a sub frame at front and back and sod all in the middle.
