Drones and their uses

Never had issue with one, did look at one capable of taking a decent camera up but they were expensive

Plus the 50m from a building rule would mean it's pointless for me

Some of the videos on YouTube etc are pretty impressive. Must be pretty skilled to fly then inside through buildings etc

My mates son has a Skyjib. It's a very impressive bit of kit. I think two blokes operate it, a pilot and a cameraman.
Him and his mate film for telly programs with it.
I will try and remember his company name, he had some pretty impressive videos on line, and he had a bit about the cameras they use.

I wonder if you could stick a paint brush on one and paint the house with it.

Portsmouth isn't a nuclear site as such, (unlike Devonport which has proper licensed nuclear status and a no fly zone over the sub refit complex part of the dockyard)

I visited the nuclear materials handling building there a few times while it was being built adjacent to one of the drydocks... seem to recall they had to move one of the cranes as they thought the AlQaedas might fly a plane into it and topple it onto a sub.
That the Fundies could just fly the plane into a sub seemed to have evaded them

That aside, you'd still think that the guvmint might object to everyone and his dog with a PPL wafting around over a major base.

If they want to look around Pompey they could just just go on the upper deck of the iow ferry, you can see everything from there anyway!!

If you mean the giant crane that got removed from Devonport I don't think it was anything to do with terrorist activities, they just had no use for it anymore? ( I worked at drake cfm for 2 years and worked in the frigate refit sheds for another 12 months and I don't think I ever saw it move)

I saw a video a while back in which someone mounted an semi-auto shotgun and a camera system onto a drone, then they moved up to a semi-auto pistol, don't think it was that accurate though and yes, it was in America.

Yes there are.

My mate has a commercial licence and uses it for house and property surveys and to check farming land. It's a side business but he reckons he's made around £10k in the last year for around 40 days of work.
Serious kit, though, not a Maplins £39.99 job...

Said mate spent the weekend and brought his drone with him - it's one of these - around £2,400...

What an incredible bit of kit. We didn't fly it (it was 11pm and he'd had a curry and some beer) but he did set it up in the living room (without propellers!) and showed me how it articulates its legs, and how the 360degree gimbal-mounted 4k camera works.
I watched a couple of vids that he's made and the quality is incredible, both the camera quality and the stability of the camera while flying.
Back to the original question "drones and their uses"; house sales, especially in the Highlands and Islands where a house may come with several acres of grounds, checking roofs, checking the state of walls that have lost their roofs to see whether they are strong enough to take a new roof, etc.
He says the police are looking at them with infrared and heat seeking cameras to search for runaways, missing people, etc.
