DRO for the poor..

Because ime a tight a%$e i had to make a new bearing for the wifes tumble drier which needed precise shoulder measurements so i made a poor mans DRO...put a flat on a taper and fitted a bit of old flat bar for a magnet base. Anyway was able to machine down to a precise thou or two and it got the job done . What has anyone else came up with to get over a problem with a bit of temp tooling??

I use a dial gauge on a mag stand for the same. Your bracket looks a lot more stable than my cheap magnet stand! If I can't get the stand on the lathe somewhere I put it on an angle plate clamped to the front of the bench. Your lathe is very clean.

yea i just dont like the minute flex you get with stands..fixed and flexi. My baby is cleaned, kissed and oiled after every job matey

Some people stick a couple of magnets to the rear of the dial gauge and then place it anywhere on the bed.

I leave mine until the swarf is half an inch deep before it gets cleaned lol. Nice idea but it is a bit limited on range, compared to a full dro.

I totally agree Andy but for a 15mm range as what i wanted its perfect...next month ime almost sure ime going for the same system as John (doubleboost) has and a great price too

I had a quick look at doubleboosts thread, would his DRO preclude the use of a milling table?

Replacing that bearing is serious money saving fettling , top marks there.

You could still install a milling table
But the DRO scale would need removing

No i bought her a new step ladder for cleaning the windows...ime serious too
