I made a gate last year for the alley way from my drive to my back garden that I think turned out good, I would like to made something in the same style to span across my driveway, we have long drive way, I would like half for vehicles and the other half gated off for area where my kids can play.
anyway initial ideas are to make into 2 sections, the span is 2.8m, have one section approx. 1 meter wide for pedestrian traffic and a larger section on the off chance i want to get a car down to the garage. my main concern is the design off the posts, smaller gate will go on the wall of my house which i can just resin some studding into and attach the post to that, the other post will hold a larger heavier gate and I'm not sure how to go about it. can i just dig down and concrete a post in the ground or would i be best adding outrigger to the post to the direction the gate will be in the open and closed position, my concern is the post moving or flexing. they will only waist high, no idea how heavy but the one I've previously built surprised me how heavy it was
last question, was sort of size post would be suitable for the larger gate?
sorry if the questions are basic, common sense. i have little experience with this so don't want to mess it up
gate I had previously made
span i want new gates to cover
