But do they stamp the size on the end lengthways and leave their name off?

Now that is interesting the guy also had a tapping set on the bench when he gave me that drill.Scratch that, it's an Osborn, made in Sheffield - exactly the same markings as my tapping set have:
It's not a cobalt, just a very good HSS with a split tip and 135* point. The other set there are cobalt and they're marked completely differently (they're also coated the entire length with bronze-coloured TiCN)
