I have been given a drill that cuts like a knife through butter but it has no makers name on it.

It also has 3 sizes on it. which is confusing to me. I expect 1 size of diameter maybe a length but 3??

Any idea who might make them. they don't look cheap but makers usually like their name on decent drills..

No clue as to maker but none of my small drills have a maker on them, only from about 20mm up.

Probably just a decent engineering jobbers drill rather than chinese DIY 10,000 for a quid specials.

I have the same problem, I have in my BIG box of drill bits accumulated over many years three drills that never need sharpened and go through steel like it's not there and no markings on them at all, they will be at least 10 years old, have a matt bronze colour and look cheap as hell.

I was hoping someone has a set or buys drills marked like that.

I can not recall ever seeing drills marked at all like that.

I've a few SGS drills that are marked similar on the shank, although IIRC mine have part numbers above them. Will check.

Looks like Bosch.

Well, I had some Bosch ones marked like that, in the same colour and which cut brilliantly, as you described. They seemed to stay sharp longer than most others too.

Might be a cobalt job...ive got a couple that i cant blunt no matter what i drill but they dont like slow speeds as mine chip and then its 20 mins at the grinder restoring it

That looks like a Bosch Titanium bit, mate has a set and sings their praises all the time.

all the bits i have of that colour are cobalt,my 5mm & 5.2mm are chines,yet are very good & cheap as.

Interesting. I can't see any images on Google like that for bosch titanium. but I can see these.

Mate has just been on the phone about a job tomorrow so I asked him, his Bosch are coloured gold the full length so probably not Bosch.

Scratch that, it's an Osborn, made in Sheffield - exactly the same markings as my tapping set have:

It's not a cobalt, just a very good HSS with a split tip and 135* point. The other set there are cobalt and they're marked completely differently (they're also coated the entire length with bronze-coloured TiCN)
