Drilling sub MM holes in stainless

I am having trouble drilling .7mm holes in M2 stainless bolts (don't ask). The only drill bits that I can get hold of in that size are chinese and blunt almost on impact. Think I need some cobalt ones because it is stainless, but have no idea where to obtain them in sub mm sizes or at prices that wont kill me.

Any ideas ???

Buy a few branded bits. Even standard HSS will drill it okay if your doing it right.
Keep the speed nice and slow to avoid cooking the bit and hardeneing the surface of the stainless.


Dormer, presto... the big names should do them in 0.7mm, or even wire sizes, i think 0.7mm is about a no70. Check before you order them up though.

Try one of the proper engineers supplies, such as Buck and Hickman, they have a substantial range.

always liked the dormer bits myself ,good cutting compound/coolant will help,hopefully your using a pillar drill or lathe,ie not a hand drill,make a holding jig if u got a few to do (pillar drill)......good luck

You can get little jigs which should make it possible with a portable drill. HSS should do it.

Can you not but pressure washer nozzles? I use them in my trade and I repair pressure washers (big uns) They come in 1/8 & 1/4 bsp threads in a miltitue of oriface diameters. They are steel with the oriface in a ssteel insert.
You can probably grind the surface down to the hole, the part that creates the fan jet

Just looked in book, normal nozzles start at 0.85mm dia oriface to 4.24mm dia
The flat type (low pressure for backpacks etc (need a holder) however start at0.66mm Dia
