Drilling 5” hole in wall

Just checked mine Pete, its 5" and I don't think it would want to be much smaller for a 4" pipe. Enough room for some sealant and thats about it.

Thats a wall and a half, I still reckon with a proper drill that bit would have done it

The diamond core drill did go through once on the SDS drill with clutch but the flints were so hard. Hence chucking a 18mm drill through, I then chiselled some of the flint out to help the diamonds through.

Central three inches took me a good two hours to get through.

no doubt a proper core drill would fly through.

So I’ve drill 5” hole, 127mm.

bought 5” duct pipe from screwfix, it measures 130mm

It's a simple thing to redrill them, just wedge a piece of wood across the hole to get a pilot guide. Once the core has cut 25mm ish it'll self guide. I had to do this when I replaced the flue on my oil fire CH boiler.

For a non-piloted drill I just get a thin bit of scrap ply and stand on it to put a hole through the ply. Then fix the ply to the wall with tape or screws (or get someone to hold it) and use it to get the new hole started. Can use hardboard in a pinch but it tends to go over-size.

that's what I do for bigger cutouts on ceiling lights just pin the template to the ceiling and drill them out
