drill press pulley

got a drill press with the middle set of pulleys damaged.
its got 5pulleys on and upper one is broken.
thing is speeds is higher than i want if i put a bigger pulley on will it reduce final speed or do i need a smaller pulley?
i got thing cheap and its got no table, so planning on mounting a tube notcher on it.

If you want slower, you need it bigger on the drill end and smaller on the motor end.

hitch, its running from smallest puley on motor set to biggest one on middle set thats broken then from smallest pulley on middle set to biggest pulley on drill end.

rtb its a nnerok drill and pulleys have smaller bore at bottom and bearing pressed into top, its rack, winder and table thats missing as place i got it from had a jig bolted to its base.

Not heard of that make, any chance of a photo, it could possibly be a Clarke clone.

The table I have has a rack & pinion, you'll have to make a handle, mine broke and I'm using a plumbing elbow.

Pillar Drill

some thing like this,having said that there are many "cloned drills -all look the same,just rebadged to the sellers choice of name, even this american one is very similar, check the motor speed 1425 or 2850 probably 1425, which means your lowest speed may be about 200 RPM, if you have a 2850 consider a different motor running at 1425, otherwise you have a major eng problem to reduce down even slower. a 3 phase motor and VFD will give you infinate speed control but an expensive avenue to go down.

Grizzley have some excellent FREE manuals, many are almost identical to UK machines.

Naerok still produce loads of different machines.in an ideal world you need to reduce the small pulley on the motor even smaller, increase the size of the biggest pulley on the idler, make the smallest pulley on the idler even smaller, and make the quills biggest pulley even bigger.
easier said than done

been looking at mine and the bottom speed is 260, it would be possible to cut the top or the two top pulleys off the intermediate shaft,( the two biggest) and replace them with two bigger ones and then get a longer "A" section belt to drive from the motor to the intermediate pulley, need a lathe probably and a bit of eng equipment, The smallest pulleys are very small already and you will not be able to reduce them.

rtb thats exactly like mine only 3.5 inches taller as coy that had shortened main shaft to fit their jigs.
stan only bit of that i could alter is the big pulley on the idler, the quills big pulley completely fills housing to point can only get belt off.

maybe call in Machine mart and check their range of drills have a look in the speed change top cover and compare the intermediate pulley, they can get you spares or you can order on line, be surprised if its not the same.
