Drill Press Motor Wiring Help Please

Depends.

Can you determine where the wires from the switch and smaller coil go? If the smaller coil ends up being connected across live & neutral via the switch all that will happen if you swap one end from live to neutral is that you'll end up with both ends of the coil connected to neutral.

If on the other hand one end of the start winding is connected to the centre of the main coil what you suggest may work.

you will have two lots of winding one for start an one for run. you just need to swap the connections over for ONE if the windings. there often different sizes of wire

OK, I think I understand.

So at the moment the start winding is red to neutral and green to Live. The main winding is white to neutral and black to live.

So if I make the start winding red to live and green to neutral, but keep the main winding white to neutral and black to live, it should all work?

Once again, many thanks for everyone's help.

So far my £30 Progress No1 has had:

3 new spindle bearings. 2 new top pulley bearings and a bit of machining to cure some wear.

New NVR switch and second hand £10 Hoover single phase motor conversion

Coat of paint, in a slightly erm.... baby blue colour

Hopefully tomorrow I'll finally get it up and running properly! I'd guess it owes me about £100 now.

Well it works .

My father in law helped me sleeve the pulley to fit the new motor. The rewiring made it go in the correct direction and the NVR switch works nicely. Really pleased with it.

Now need to find a big chuck key and I'm away.
