Dremmel type tool

As my birfday is coming up and I have been asked what I would like, after a TVR Tuscan, a Portamig welder, and a blank cheque and a quiet life, I think for some of the tricky small areas I come across, (no plasma cutter either ) I thought some type of Dremmel type tool with small burrs or grinding type things, but something that will stand up to use on mild steel up to say 2/3mm? any advice welcomed thank you

If your planning thicker stuff consider burr grinder over dermal

So I see! Try straight grinder that takes you to the right things.


Only one I have used is welderpauls monster of a hitachi unit bit I would think the bosch or makita units will be fine

I have the short reach Bosch* version of these, great piece of kit, I reckon the long nose could make it hard to use one handed. Otherwise they are great tools.
Bosch? no! meant Dewalt..
Whatever make a die grinder is a great addition to the armoury.
You can buy cheap laminate trimmers and use them quite well so I have picked up via the interweb.
Same body and motor, much cheaper.

I use a small Sealey air die grinder with burs, grindstones and flap wheels. very good for confined spaces

Try a Trend T4EK, 850w variable speed router (yeah, I know, it's a router). The thing is that for less than 90 quid you get a router, plus you can remove the motor unit from the router frame and you get a die grinder to boot!
It'll take 3mm, 6mm and 1/4" collets so the range of tools you can use is vast.
On the other hand, I just got an Evolution 6mm die grinder off the 'bay for 63 quid brand new including a couple of burrs, stone points and cut off discs. Not tried it out yet.

was rummageing through me cupboards in the man cave and found an air die grinder i forgot i had doh!!, ordered a few 6mm shank mounted stones from fleabay for £2:69, will see how I get on with it, if it isn't upto much I might get the Evo one jinja, be grateful of a review when you finally test it out please

Chris I have had 3 dremels and on every one the speed controller has gone when still under warranty, the hassle iv had trying to get them changed is unreal dremel them selfs are an absolute nightmare to deal with in the end my last one I just gave up with trying to get it replace and went out and bought a bosch professional die grinder, much more robust

Amazon sometimes have Dremmels on good deals. Aldi do their own version for about £20 but they aren't always in stock. The Dremmel hasn't been as good as expected tbh. Not really up the job on rust removal or metal cutting.

You can buy the accessories cheaper elsewhere. B and Q, Aldi, Clas Ohlson, M Mart all fo their own version of the bits.
