Hello
I've been through two Dremels in the last 6 months. The first gave up within a week and had only been used a couple times. The second gave up a few months later but had literally only been used a couple times and for light use only.
The problem on both occasions was as if the Dremel had burnt out. It was "jittery" and smelt of burning. The carbon brushes were fine. Is this a common problem? Could they have been fixed easily? On both occasions I returned them to the shop, the second time for a credit note.
Now I am a little unsure what to do. The Dremel was fantastic when it worked, and I am tempted to try a third time. However if this is a common problem, and they are not "what they used to be", then I am unwilling to do so.
Are there any other viable alternatives? I know Black and Decker do one, although I haven't seen or heard much about it. I understand you can get a 230v Bosch Professional die grinder for £100-200 but they do not have variable speed which I need for fine work. I don't want to use an air tool as I need mains flexibility.
Or do people recommend I try Dremel and hope to be third time lucky? In theory, they "should" be great as they are a recognised brand, owned by Bosch (?) and have 2 year warranty...
All advice is appreciated..
