Drawbacks of a large ultrasonic cleaner?

I am thinking about picking up an ultrasonic cleaner from Vevor.

I am toying with the idea of getting the 30 litre version for times when I want to do engine bits such as rocker cover etc.

That said, most of the time, I am likely to be doing much smaller things.

In order to avoid having to fill the whole thing with a lot of liquid to reach the proper depth, is it appropriate to turn the bath at an angle so you don't need to fill it up as much, and not waste energy.

Perhaps I would be better just getting a much smaller one and outsourcing the cleaning of bigger bits when needed (which admittedly wouldn't be all that often?)

The water in them provides cooling to the transducers, so you cant have some of them dry. Yoy could put minimum amount in bottom then put a small container eg ice cream tub in filled to level you require.

The last time i used one i found they are very loud and can apparently damage your hearing even though they are in ultrasonic range there are still components or harmonics in the audible range.

Mine has a minimum mark for the water level on it about 3/4 of the way up the tank.

If you run it for long enough the water heats up as well so I would guess the transducers could potentially overheat if there's not enough water to cool them although you can get heated baths so maybe not?

I’d buy a smaller one and just get someone else to the bigger stuff. Why spend a wad on something you don’t really need or something your not going to use very often. I’ve got the 3l Vevor one, does most of the stuff I want to clean. It’s mostly chainsaw and lawnmower parts i clean.

Unless you need to no move it for storage fill it up with water then put a suitable container inside with whatever cleaning fluid and parts you need. That way you won't need to change the main fluid unless be you actually use that instead of a container.

Also the method for using solvents.

My advice would be to avoid vevor. The likelihood of receiving a machine either not up to specification or not long-lived would be too much for me to risk. Cheap? - yes. Good value? - debatable.

Neither of my chinese diesel air heaters meet the specification claimed. Parts missing or substandard, heat output nothing like specified (both maximum and minimum outputs/fuel usage), temperature control wide from the mark.

Apart from that, the long term reliability (without repair/attention) might be on a par with the poor condition re the machine specifications. There are likely a lot that last some considerable time, but I reckon if you are one of those that have an unreliable machine, you will be on your own for rectification. I put vevor in the same group as ban good. At least, if through amyzon, one can return faulty/unsatisfactory goods more easily - although there is a lot of sub-standard stuff on there, too.

Remember the adage - ”Buy cheap, buy twice”.

A “brand”? Or are they like many other sellers, just buying in the cheapest (with their particular paint colour) and selling them on?

They certainly do not manufacture all of their items - that is for sure.

Much like alixpress, ban good, amazon, and argos (even). They are all of a muchness. Pot luck if the item is a full spec one. Look just a little bit and you may find something out of spec. Don’t look and you will never see.

I agree that often the customer does not actually require every detail in the specification - I knew that I did not, so have kept the items (but fully knowing that I can improve them). Of the two items I bought recently, I was offered (and accepted) a 20% refund. The first refund was for a missing part and the second as an alternative to supplying the correct information following a request, from me, to supply that info.

Even the mis-bored hole for the ill-fitting grommet could be rectified by aluminium brazing and remachining, if necessary. The fact remains that it was a machine built with a sub-standard part, all the same.

As I suggested in my post - you take the chance of whether it was one isolated lemon or whether the whole batch were lemons - sold off cheap to those that wouldn’t notice.

I must admit I've bought a couple of item from Vevor and they've been spot on and in reality what they are selling are exactly the same items as the sellers on ebay etc except the ebay ones are more expensive.

I bought a 22L because I though it would be a good compromise, I do wish I'd bought a smaller one.

Is there a simple reason why they sre more expensive? Could it be a combination of epay charges and that the items were bought from vevor by them in bulk, so they are not selling without a mark-up?

I suspect their are people buying from Vevor and reselling.

I bought a hydraulic bead breaker with a air powered hydraulic pump from Vevor and I think it was £199.99 delivered next day. The same items on ebay were £250+. Local tractor place has a Sealey badged breaker on it's own for nearly £300 and it is exactly the same item only a different colour and you still need the pump on top of that

That said, high capacity ultrasonic cleaner can be biig money and i'm not sure how much use i'd get out of.

Based on the feedback on here, I was going to opt for a smaller unit as it would super useful for odds and ends and send off the bigger bits to be cleaned. The place I was going to send them to.. charged a mechanic friend of mine in the trade "€100 for a manifold", which was before the energy crisis....I have a sump, rocker cover and various other bits and bobs. I would likely get a big big bill so it makes sense to just run with the large ultrasonic cleaner for €400.

I think i'll just go with the big for now.. when i'm done i'll just stick up a couple of adverts in local classifieds for cleaning parts and make back a bit of money that way.

I'm not convinced an ultrasonic is the best for cleaning a sump and rocker cover. Personally I think you be better off with a can of degreaser and pressure washer.

I got my Dk Sonic 22L for a good price on Amazon and as I had some vouchers from work it didn't actually cost anything. I've used it a few time but there have been quite a few times where 6-10L would have been ideal because it would be a real faf filling and heating the 22L one.

Have you ever actually tried cleaning something like that with a power washer?

The power keeps throwing then work piece all over the place.. and then you constantly get the water and dirt thrown back in your face. It's not fun at all.

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the large one and see how I get on.

Done it loads of times, I generally just put my foot on them or stick them inside an old tyre.

I genuinely think you could be dissapointed cleaning them with an ultrasonic. I've done oily stuff in mine and I wasn't that impressed. I bought a pipe threader, I stuck the oily greasy dies in the ultrasonic hoping they would come out nice and clean. Total waste of time, I would been better to just stick them in a bucket of diesel or petrol.

Interestingly it is one thing that has prevented me from buying a larger size one.
The smaller ones have been disappointing. I guess I was expecting too much.

Ok.. so I just bought this one. It's a lot cheaper than the original 30 litre one I saw at approximately €420, with this one being €238..

My cheaper choice has 2 shortcomings: single frequency only (but seems standard frequency) and no degas feature.

To degas, I will be happy to just run it for a few minutes before inserting my workpiece.

At that kind of money it is a throwaway price (I hope the quality isn't) as sending my bits off to a local business would likely cost more.

I'll post back once I get it up and running and if I appear to forget please just ping me and i'll do so..
