After making a new bracket for the telescope, I had a bit of a think, and came up with another upgrade. I want to fit a simple dovetail bracket between the replacement bracket and the alt/azimuth head. This would allow me to store the telescope in the box I made for it, and keep the rings on the telescope, not the stand (less faffing with thumbscrews, etc).
My minor problem is getting my head around cutting the make dovetail. I’ve got one side complete, but twice today I marked out the second side, and twice I sort of ‘lost track’ of what bit was what. This is WITH a fusion 360 rendering, and scale drawing (see attachment).
I’m using a little dinky 60 degree dovetail cutter, which is moving the aluminium very nicely, and to get the male second part cut properly, I may need some clever construction methods, as I’m not sure my vise is big enough for the part.
