Double Bevel Sliding Mitre.... metal Saw

why can i not buy one, and, can i create one by using one of evolutions 12" tct blades?

evolution have this model, which will do what I want, but its 10 inch and i would like a 12" blade.

not sure of the rpms for the evolution blades as compared to a normal wood saw. nor am i sure will the bore of the blade fit another saw, say a makita or dewalt. Thinking I could pick up a second hand Double Bevel Sliding Mitre Saw handy enough. I have a makita 14" abrasive saw, v good but kinda limited in what it can do.

Am looking at specs currently. wondering if anyone has done similar.

They run a lot slower than a chop saw, I would be a bit worried about the blade coming to bits, but I suppose a speed controller could be used to drop the speed but it may drop the torque on the motor.

A 12" saw designed for wood will usually have a 30mm arbor and run around 4500rpm
A 14" abrasive chopsaw runs around 3 - 4000rpm off the top of my head
A 12" TCT drycut metal cutting chopsaw will have a 25mm arbor and run around 14 - 1500rpm. There are a few metal cutting blades about that are rated to much higher rpm BUT it ain't gonna end well if used dry on steel, they're also used on other industrial kit with proper coolant systems

From the various threads on here i'm thinking that most, if not all, of the DIY marketed TCT metal cutting saws are at best cheap tat... complaints about them cutting wonky out of the box, throwing all the chips back at the operator etc. Personally i can't see modifying a cheap compound mitre wood saw working very well, the pivots/bearings/seals will all be lighter duty and designed to cope with wood dust rather than metallic swarf for one thing and then there's the biggy... TCT chopsaws don't like cutting metal 'on the flat' i.e. cutting angle like L is much harder on the blade than /\ due to heat build up which is probably why you only see sliding designs on small capacity cheap DIY tat

If you do make/modify one please don't base the work clamping system on those Rage things, properly mickey mouse for cutting steel IMO

I'm sure i've seen videos on youtube of guys buying after market steel blades for their chop saws. I remember seeing that it reduces heat greatly.
