it depends on the structure that you have and also the apex point on the roof
as goes for balcony theres other things that you can do with them, the most important is making sure its well sealed on them
in uk it also depends on what planning will allow
house no cottage yes but id level with the rest of the property

In the photo you show, the wall below projects, which has made the balcony much easier in that particular place.
A straight wall makes it more expensive as more structural work required.

If you don't have a projection you would typically have a Juliet balcony.
Wall loading remains irrespective of how its built.

here in the uk its worth more to build a dormer on top of the original wall and make the balcony external to the building
in some cases its better to make an extension and create the balcony above it therefore douberling your usage space
you can create external balconys rather easily just by using steel therefore extending the front balcony whilst also giving more room also you can bring the dormer further forward as well
note the one below uses girders through the wall and these are fastened to an internal girder the front curved girder is only a support for the handrail

id advise also looking at this as it is planning permission with an exception

a balcony dosnt give much return on the investment but a full dormer does and so does an extension roof balcony

Yep, that’s all I was asking, a rough price how much that particular dormer would be so thanks.I could have swore the OP started his post by How much would a dorma and balcony like this cost? followed by a pic of his fancy

very impossible not knowing what steel work needed and materials doubling in price in the last 3 years. a lot of people have cancelled building work as its now out of there price range
just pay and get some drawings done then get proper quotes

I have built that many over the years and did start early in years dont ask i was on a roof at 13
i presume roofman started early like i did
so i cant give you a true number but im well over 500+
ive been burnt that many times and that includes being sat on the ridge slates burning everything
roofman knows what i mean tiles and slates get really hot and burn when you touch them not forgetting the dormer sauna and roof saunas

the last dormers was these
beams lifted up on scaffolding to build these
last 4 pics built in 2 days per dormer building them is easy if your just building the framework and move onto the next job
double wood beam at rear and at front of a dormer unless built onto a wall
last 2 pics day 1 strip stone roof off, day 2 frame built day 3 build second dormer frame as it was a double dormer built side by side
so yeah more than possible to build more than 20 a year
