Door latches

Who makes decent quality door latches?
Only for internal doors but I seem to be forever taking them apart bending bits, packing them out.All the ones I've previously use sooner or later jam up as the sticky out bit pulls in too far and and sticks behind the mounting plate.I'm not after cheap but quality(not stupidly expensive).

I've always noticed yale to be better than most,don't know about the newer offerings though

Yale crap. One I bough from screwfix the keys are sharp and not a good fit plus it regularly just seizes up. Poxy thing. Wouldn't buy again.

sorry to say they are all rubbish and cheaply made

yet you get charged stupid amounts for them

and to be honest you wouldnt want to pay for a good solid door lock or latch as you wouldnt see the money or the value in a door lock or latch or combined

That could be the fault of the handle, not the latch. The handle should have a stop inside it that won't let it rotate more than 90 degrees. If the stop in the handle is worn, it will over-travel, leading to the problem you describe. If necessary, you could apply a blob of weld to repair it.

I always go for eurospec style with the removable plates

Find them to be stronger and better made

I remember a job a few years ago

Marked up all the latch holes. Ran around and drilled /routed all the holes/rebates

Then when I started fitting the latches I found every single one was welded up in a slightly different position wasn't fun putting right thanks Wickes.

Never let the customer supply ironmongery anymore

I fitted E&S Easi-T latches when I built the house about 20 years ago. I've had to replace one so far, out of 15, and that was on one of the most used doors.

I bought them from ironmongery direct.

not that ive ever replaced meny at all but very rare must have done 2 in total in all the years ive owned a house a lot of the time 2 adults 4 kids

i found most of the time its the handles that make them stiff or sticking problems the way they are mounted if there slightly off center

mount the handle and work the lever before screwing in the handle

our internal doors were supplied with all the iron mongery in a fitted steel reinforced frame...all with key's....
everything made in Italy...gotta say first class after the cr@p fitted in the UK....

All new stainless steel handles.Also did it on the previous handles.The problem is with the latches as I take tham apert and the stops are cheap thin metal which bends, I've packed them out with bits of wood or nuts but the metal is so poor it never works for long.Make is eclipse.

My door handles, again fitted 20 years ago, are from Carlisle Brass. None have needed replacing so far.
