Well normally the door card has a slot for a male plastic pin to slide into and then a Receiving hole in the door to slot into
If your too keen removing the door card you can break them so if they do Iv always used a dab of black mastic and away you go no rattles from the door card

There are plenty fastener options, but the issue is most rely on a gap between the card and the metalwork.

So if the new ones don't have cut outs for the usual studs how were the original ones retained? (A genuine question as it is over thirty years since I worked on a beetle.)
Edit: I have no idea why I thought you had an air cooled VW van, sorry.

id have assumed they would need holes for a clip...have you asked the seller?
VW Beetles, Type 2 etc use some special clips that are hidden but the hardboard need a hole for them to go in. I would assume they should already have them
@nickk this is what Bay windows use, I'm not sure about Split Screens but Beetles had something very similar

Is the trimmer experienced in VW or did they just make panels to a pattern you provided? I just wondering if they've made solid panels and didn't realise they should have cutouts. Again I don't know Splitties

Looking at the pictures in the link stuvy provided, a flat-bottomed drill (or end mill) with a proper depth stop could do it.
A lip and spur bit or forstner bit with the point severely reduced and a close fitting, large-ish OD tube glued to it, touching the chuck jaws with just enough bit projecting to make the hole would give you good control of depth*. Practice on something first. Perhaps under-drill the hole under power and cut the last millimeter with the chuck turned by hand.
Would be a lot easier on a drill press: the holes being on the perimeter means no issue with throat depth and you can clamp the panel to the table.
By hand is possible with great care - the challenge in this is making the point long enough so the drill does not wander, but short enough not to penetrate the fabric.
* Look at how aircraft countersink depth stops work - a small collar clamped on with a grubscrew is not appropriate here.

double sided tape or self adhesive Velcro? No need for holes then
He is a vw specialist,he did my originals 10 years ago,I didn’t ask him to provide holes ,the doors littered with all the previous owners attempts ,so it’s tricky ,i planned on drilling in situ,but now they look so good ,I don’t want to spoil them with screw heads.think I’ll experiment with a counterbore cutter and depth stop.

no way id try and drill them with the cloth on...soon as the bit slightly touches the cloth it will spin it and roar a hole in it

Use a router with depth stop to get most of the way safely then finish off with scalpel
