door bell

i am looking for a doorbell that has a sound and visual aid,
as fed up not hearing people lightly tapping the door and missing them,
apart from salespeople.

what is best to use?

Get a wireless doorbell with three or chimes units ie one in the shed,one in the living room,one in the bedroom.

One thing though don't go cheap cos the cheapest always fail at some point or other.

Something like this.....but not this cheap.

I made my own out of a few relays and a car flasher unit. Once the bell is pushed it keeps sounding a horn and flashing a pair of red lights until I stop it.

All the parts were taken from a Rover Metro, which is probably the best use to which one of these cars has ever been put.

Was your circuit controlled by a microcontroller (PIC, Atmel, etc.) or was it some clever use of 555's to trigger the relays?

No - I couldn't get it work on anything less than a dual-core pentium with 8 gig of RAM

There is a wireless one at Lidl at the moment £6.99 it has a large red led that lights up as well as chimes. Its supposed to have a 100m range, which I haven't tested but it works in my workshop fine. Best of all you can remove the switch dead easy so you dont have to get pestered at certain times of the year
