I know most people are now wary of email scams but these last few day's I have had a couple of belters... I have always been fascinated by and studied the variants of scam mails so know quite a lot about them, these are the new generation of a scam that's been on the go for a while...and they are very very good.

One from my bank stating my account had been suspended due to suspicious activity and one from Paypal stating I had made a payment to Skype of £39, both had the option to click onto a link to resolve any issues, both had the logo and associated text so accurate it was amazing.

The quality of these mails was excellent, they really had put work into them and are a lot more professional than usual..

It's a natural response to go a little into 'panic mode' when you think your account has been compromised and unfortunately some will fall for it.

So just wanting to warn all members of this site to take extra care, if it saves one of you getting caught..was worth my while typing.

if i get an email from ebay asking for any information from me i always copy it into the report spam link and await a reply

Thats the best thing to do, unfortunately some don't..the result can be a nightmare

If it doesn't contain your name it is definitely a scam. All the scam ones I receive say "Dear Paypal member" or "customer" instead of my real name. Forward them along with all headers to "spoof@paypal.com" so they can be traced. They will contact you to tell you whether they are genuine or not.

any email suggesting you "click on the link" are 99.999% suspect.... irregardless of how "real" they look or sound.

any genuine communication will be along the lines of... please log into your acc in the usual way, ... please contact us on/at or the number on your card/statement. and will not request any additional information other than that which you would normally provide to log in/ gain access.

MOst people from card companies who have called me learn to hate me... i never "confirm my identity" if they contact me.

A lot of the scam emails also have attachments that they ask you to open.
These usually contain a Trojan that will open your computer up to the hackers

I have to be honest here, it's very easy to spot a fake, hover over the Clickable link and read at the bottom left what the web address is, but I know not everyone could decipher it.

And another thing I do, which I enjoy, is clicking the link to the scam website, and typing lots of expletives in the username and password boxes, and sending it!!!

It does keep me entertained, but then I am quite sad really!!!! And I wouldn't recommend it!

I also do this but sometimes I also use plausible info and I think of the time they'll waste trying to do things with totally fictitious info
