Dopey sod in work did this, then put plaster over it and then cut the thumb off a glove, tied it in so he could carry on. Then forgot about it, till it smelled strange....

Renault 5 carburettor return springs have along enough return on the end to go through a thumb from the underside and out through the nail if you somehow completely cock up getting one or off . . . only the memory remains after 30 years.
