Got back from holiday in Mexico with 3 large cases full of clothes that need washing. Washed fine but then the tumble drier snapped it’s belt.

Got myself online on the Miele site, nothing available. Tried E-Spares, still nothing. A bit of digging reveals that Miele will no longer sell spare parts to individuals, only authorised repair centres. HUH?

Is this actually legal?

Anyway, bought an almost identical machine off FB marketplace and it seems I can get a secondhand belt from an appliance recycler in Germany, which will leave me with 2 driers, when I only want one (none really but it rains a lot in the UK). I’m just astonished that they would do this, or that they can get away with it. Bizarre.

there all trying to push down the route of apple either get our repairer's or services done at our repair centers or dont get the repair done

theres always ways around it

though i would look for a bigger belt and then fit a cam wheel on it so it takes up the slack

Yeah, but weren’t Apple forced to relax that stance? I know you can buy the parts and the loan of a genuine toolkit to repair your own Apple products.

Just seems weird that, in this day of repair, re-use and recycle these manufacturers are allowed to get away with this. A perfectly good drier which needs a 10 quid belt is effectively scrap unless one gets creative. Mental.

My eldest son has Miele units, The dryer cut out with over temp, the temperature sensor was a non re-setting type, And spares not available to home owners.

Tney guy at E-Spares said no stock and they can’t get most Miele spares now. Google search says only secondhand ones on the bay.

Under EU law (which we're still applying), manufacturers must make spares available, however they don't have to sell direct to consumers.
Apple has been forced to relax it's stance, but they still make people jump through hoops to get parts.

Across the pond, things are quite different.
Some manufacturers have been going to great lengths to lock in repairs to their own dealers. Apple is probably the worst tech wise, but John Deere have been getting a lot of attention for locking machinery to dealers.

A more energy efficient option is to hang it up and get a dehumidifier pointing at it, rather than tumble drying. Does take longer tho.
I used to tumble mine but it ruins some clothes and now bills are much higher I have stopped.

It’s a serpentine belt with 6 ribs. Nothing out there like it.

Yeah, have a read and laugh here. The drier is the last resort, but still needed in the UK.

I hang mine in the front room, they're dry in a day or two, only me here, so nobody to complain.
I do have a combi washer dryer, but looking at the smart meter while it's drying is painful.

If you can find one of the right length with a different rib count, use that. Missing one or two will let you still use the drier and if you find one with more ribs they are easy to cut down to the correct width.

Washer/Drier machines are the most inefficient thing known to man. We had one and it soon got flogged off in favour of separates.

They also have about half load drying capability compared to washing, which is nuts. Wash 8kg but takes two cycles to dry the same 8kg.

Mind you, not the weirdest thing ever. Saw these today. Sometimes it makes my head hurt to understand the reasoning.

Even weirder, than those, out for a walk today & saw someone with a new electric Citroen Ami, limited to 28mph, about 35 miles range. In France can be driven at 14, no licence needed under the san permi law, but in this country a licence needed. I can’t imagine the chaos it will cause, off down the A roads at that speed, just hope it’s not in front of me. Why is someone allowed to import it?

If the link you posted to the correct belt is accurate then it's a 5 rib belt (5pj) which makes the generic part number 5PJ1915 (5 rib, 1915mm)

If it is a 6 rib...then it's 6PJ...if it's not 1915mm then measure the old belt...
