I take it, its a 4 stoke then theres a possibility that the rope is now jammed in the inlet or exhaust valve and has also possibility bent a valve unless he made sure it was on the compression stoke first.....
So pull the exhaust and carb for a look see.....
Its probably going to be a head off jobbie.....
Some people shouldn't be let near a spanner, I’ve a mate that freely admits he’s an ape. Doesn't stop him working on stuff, usually making it far worse before it gets better...just.
And has the neck to take the **** out of me for having so many tools. Then gets the hump when I tell him I ‘using’ the tool/gizmo he wants to borrow.
Chancers.
@Migmac, are you taking sandwiches

So if it started with no unusual noises, why did he stuff the rope in the cylinder in the first place, what did he think he needed to fix?????
He thought he needed to ‘lock’ the engine to get the rear axle off!
But wheres the fun in that ,,,Me thinks he needs to buy a service/workshop manual and have a read. Could be cheaper in the long run...plus he wouldn't be (shall we say..... ) ribbed as much....
