Dog anti chew spray

Our Jack Russel terrorist is doing her best to destroy her tail, has done for a while now, she’ll spin round in circles until she catches her tail then bites it.

Saw this on eBay, but it doesn’t say you can actually apply it to the moocher, it’s for spraying on table legs etc.

Just wondered if anyone has used something similar or if there’s a better product, I know there’s a lot of dog folk here so hopefully someone will have come across this before.

She’s walked regularly, well looked after and has a descent sized garden to amuse herself and chase birds so I don’t think it’s caused by stress.

I tried several anti chew/ bitter sprays when my German Shepherd pup used to chew everything. It made no difference at all in my experience. He chewed stuff so much that even the render base on my house has perfectly rounded corners - he chewed them that way!

Then when he got to about 6 months old like a light switch it stopped overnight.

Vet saw it a couple of years ago, told me to use the lampshade thing round her neck, it worked until I stopped using it then back to square one.

I'm sure there's some stuff you can wet brushes on, can't recall the name though. Tastes horrible. Try chilli sauce maybe ?

Our Shepherd ate bees and went cross eyed when they stung him, so good luck with bad tasting stuff working.

we used cheap vinegar and also Tabasco sauce on things like their wooden beds and even sometimes our hands when our dogs where at the biting stage, both worked well, although Tabasco does stain...!!

Docking tails is still legal for medical reasons or to prevent distress / damage in certain working dogs.
It does sound like the OP's Jack Russell has behavioural problems rather than medical - we had a GSD that did the same, it took a lot of distraction training to mostly stop it.

It does sound like the OP's Jack Russell has behavioural problems rather than medical - we had a GSD that did the same, it took a lot of distraction training to mostly stop it.

I’ve tried that but there’s only so many hours in the day we can monitor her, I’ll try the spray and see how it works.

Is her flea treatment up to date? Does she have any signs of skin infection around the area she is chewing?
