Does this look like it will work?

Ok so a hinged plate with sides and a roller on the base of that plate to aid sliding into the car, that will take care of the sideways movement whilst pushing it in and also once in it can be folded and locked with a pin to secure the holder when loaded.
The angled cylinder holder will work well as well.
Only issue is the base kicking out as I tilt it onto the base plate, possibly a hook to stop that happening will work.

The bottom lip only needs to be small, not full size 40- 50mm or so should be plenty, and being angled means it's flat on the road when you load but will still provide sufficient restraint when lifting

Not sure if I follow with the first bit but if I am I think that would make the length of the cylinder holer a bit too long, will do a sketch and see.

Too long if attaching the holder to the bracket, well if I am understanding what you mean, sketch below showing things which would make it almost 500 longer than the cylinder itself, assuming my dimensions are correct for the car height.

I would make two simple trolleys and strap to top and bottom. Lockable wheels.
Tilt bottle slightly to transport then lock bottom wheels and flip over so top enters the car. Lift bottom and shuffle all in.

Not actually weighed it Hood but i can pock up the bottle without trouble & nearly 80 & as knackered as most here
Just popped it on the scales with reg 120Lbs.

I don't really want wheels as I am wanting something that doesn't really need secured once loaded. My idea is a way of loading and also providing a secured holder once loaded.

Bleedin' heck now I need to go and grab the converter to work that out in modern weight measurements

It would probably work out too expensive for me with the volume of gas I have been going through lately but you never know.

Are you not using a full size cylinders ?
It took 2 oldies to load in van I carried it back into WS lifting over 2 door thresholds the first nearly 12 inches
There was no way I could have done that with old bottle would have thought at least 20% lighter

I am using the E33 cylinder, 33l capacity but filled to 300Bar so just a smidgen less gas than the large 230Bar BOC cylinders.

9.99m³ as opposed to 11m³ of the large cylinders.

It is an estate and the back seats are almost permanently folded down as I need to get everything in.

All of these designs have you loading the bottle with the valve going to the front of the car but in that picture you have the valve + reg at the rear. That's how I would also load it as I wouldn't be happy with my reg still attached to the bottle and vulnerable at the front of the car but I couldn't be bothered to remove the reg every time I stuck the bottle in the car.

I think a trolley with auto-collapsing legs like some ambulance/hearses use is the answer, I haven't got time now to do a drawing but I'll post one later if you like.

Reg is only that end because of the way I need to lift as the top has the handles so once I get the bottom into the car I have good grip. The reg is a Nevoc style so no tools required, just hand tighten the nut, see pic. Putting it in the other way is no real hardship as it will be right at the rear passenger door.

The ambulance style trolley is a good enough idea but the cassies make wheeling anything with small wheels a nightmare and not really wanting things on wheels when in the car as it is much harder to secure.

I think my original drawing with the extended slot in the cylinder holder and an added slot in the arms may be the way to go. Bit more complex than a simple slide but it should be as easy to get in, if not easier and it has the benefit of being a contained unit so more or less secure, holding everything together and in one place once inside the car. The angled base is also something I will incorporate I think as that makes sense as well.
