Does Mild Steel Absorb ?

I’ve welded with mig,many bed frames,some vono,some unknown,never had a problem,know for a fact some are still together as customers been back for other jobs and commented favourably.

Over the years, I’ve used bed frame angle for many projects, there used to be a one man scrap business locally & if he got bed frames he used to drop them off, a source of cheap angle for me. I always found it stick welded ok, the main problem was cutting it with a hacksaw, it was hard & wrecked the blades.

No wonder some
car manufacturers won't use recycled metal in their cars.

Many if not most, modern metals have a degree of recycled metals in the melt. The better quality stuff has a much better controlled composition, that's all. The worst of China stuff is very badly controlled and has a higher amount of dross, even if it hits the composition requirements. We notice it with stainless pipes, China stuff starts corroding faster in aggressive environments than European stuff.

A lot of bed frames, particularly Vono ones, were Re-rolled tram lines that were high manganese for wear resistance..it work hardens as well as horrible to weld.

And Drill..it grabs the bit and anything under 6mm it can snap the bit with no warnings

What kind of sparks does it give off under the grinder ?

I have been arc welding the angle, not sure on the sparks it gives off when grinding.

I would of said it could be the rods but they are new and i have done a lot recently with them with no problem on galv`d and rusty box section.

I will use it to make a new polisher stand and maybe bolt that together if it keeps this up when welding.
