a guy walks in to my workshop and asks if i could give a price on a job, i ay not without seeing it.

we (reluctantly on my part) agree to me viewing it during daylight hours as he has no lighting, i drive 30 minutes to him on the alloted day for 4pm ... he's not there, go to a friends to kill some time and try back later as ive driven to him, still not there

i ring the next day, he apologises and says he didnt think i would come as it was raining, we agree another day

today.... i go around for 3.30 and yes, he wasnt there again, i go off up the road to see someone and dropped by again at 5.30 and he wasnt there

thats about 7 hours of work wasted and £15 of squirt, tomorrows phone call will be interesting

i should add that he is in his mid to late 70's and chinese so i give him the benefit of the doubt on some miscommunication

We've had a few dreamers/timewasters. Not so much now, now that we don't do anything domestic. Although there's still 1 or 2.
People seem to think you are there at their beck and call, and that your time matters nothing to them.

Tell him to bring it to you! Don't waste any more time on him.

These days if i get asked to go look at a project i tell them that i will charge £100 minimum to look at the job and if i get to do it i will deduct it from my final total, Fair i reckon.
If they don't agree i don't go !!!

i happened to see the car on both occasions as its rusting away outside, ive given an estimate but he wanted me over

i will say that either i grab it with the truck soon or it sits there another 20 years

the other week i had a guy want a mk2 jag welded, i didnt want the work but he persuaded me to come and look and after the hour of poking and sucking air through my teeth he said he wanted me to do the work and stuffed £25 in my hand for coming to look at it

i wish that happened every time
