+1 to all of thatFor the handiness of a QCTP I think I'd just be butchering the centre pivot to suit the new post. You'll never change it back! and if you do, you can machine a bushing to make the difference back up. It's not the most precision part of the lathe, it just needs to not move
My compound is almost always locked out, but I leave it at 30 degrees. Means I can get in tighter to the tailstock and also when threading I can use it instead and only cut on one flank.
