Do companies have to mark where their products are made?

Will that not simply delete all sales to Scotland and France?

Scotland doesn't have, or is likely to have, any customer for our stuff, or indeed our competitors - so we can ignore them The investment, the tiny domestic market, and distance from world markets, means that isn't going to change.

And France already likes our gear - they either buy from us in the UK, or a competitor in the UK/USA - no-one else makes what we do

Chinese tried (I've mentioned before, they put photos of our machine in our factory on their website) - a few plants were equipped around the world as the big international customers tried them out . . . we, and our competitors, have been busy replacing the rapidly worn out stuff with our proven gear for the last few years. I'm sure they will improve their game, but hopefully we will have moved on to.

The best we could hope for is "assembled in Britain", anything made here is going to combine parts supplied from just about everywhere other than here. Flat pack cars, machines, tractors and just about anything

The American stuff in our market doesn't proclaim the entire machine as USA made because of that - but every single individual component with their part number on, if they make it, it states "Made in USA" under the part number.

Assembled in Britain is about the most we can hope for these days.
Mention this on here before, chatting to a guy about tube benders and he mentioned his company had one for sale. Long story short, they made tubular aluminium framed products for the nhs and were struggling as a company.They found a company in the east that could bend these products and ship them over here complete as a flatpack for less than the material/tube was costing them here. Now they have no workshops or machines, just a few bods screwing these things together.

We do. Millions of pounds, and many tonnes, of machinery for worldwide export.

And as much as it annoys me to say so, so does our closest competitor.

Drive past either of our facilities and you wouldn't have a clue though.

It was slightly tongue in cheek, we do make stuff - but it tends to be more niche products than the obvious large scale manufacturing we used to do.

America is still very proud of their manufacturing industry, but in the UK we seem almost ashamed of it, preferring to focus on Financial Services instead.
I suspect the global supply chain issues have served as a wakeup call for a few industries though - anecdotally there seems to be more interests in exploring locally sourced alternatives than there used to be.

I bought a motorcycle top box off ebay last week, looked cosher, the blurb said the item is actually supplied and delivered from Cannock, ten miles from my gaff. So I bought it...

...but when the confirmation email arrived ...



However, box arrived on time, very well packed, and seems quite a robust piece of kit. Comes complete with an aluminium mounting plate, all fasteners and fittings etc.

Now bolted securely to my Beemer.

If you scroll right to the bottom of an ebay listing a business seller it will have their registered address but a lot of the Chinese sellers do hold UK stock it would seem

Electric rad cooling fans ordered from Summitracing in the USA, $110 each. When they arrived, in the Philippines when I lived there, they were exactly the same as the ones I had bought locally for $10

Except the local ones didn't have the Summit cardboard boxes with 'proudly made in the USA' on them.

They did have the same small gold 'Made in Taiwan' stickers on the actual fans that the Summit ones did though.
