King Dick
Need I say more!
If I need new spanners I look at King Dick first, if they don't do what they have then I take a look around to see what's on offer. I did buy Britool old stock but not much about now.
I remember King Dick being good, but thought they had been bought out or were now just a name stamped on taiwanese tat.

I've not come across anything remotely close to the micro fine wobbly ended snap on ratchets. They are currently missing from my arsenal and I have to borrow 'er brothers - I think about 400 quid for the full set 1/4 3/8 & 1/2 .... but I will put that right.

My favourite all time tool in the box is a gedore tool. 200mm bolt cutters. If it broke tomorrow it would be replaced tomorrow. Anything that fits between the jaws it cuts. And things that don't fit in the jaws it rips. I'd be totally lost without them.

I bought a small Geodore 3/8 drive socket set for my first job when I left school, 1 ratchet, 1 short bar & AF sockets. That would be 51 years ago, most of it still ok, ratchets crude by modern standards but still works. Also had a set of Britool mini rings, remember them anyone? & a set of Britool open ended, all in AF. Still got some of them. Britool in those days was the dogs whatsits, like Snapon today, if you could break it, they replaced it. I couldn't afford a set of Britool sockets on £2-15-0 a week.
Also very good in those days were Gordon's & King Dick, but King Dick were a bit thick in the jaw for confined spaces if I recall.

Yes I tend to look at it that way but sometimes we all get pushed into a corner needing something. I needed an M8 helicoil on a Sunday and my kit was elsewhere. I tried my local hardware store, cheap end of line paint and plastic plant pots place had a Silverline kit. I used it and it was fine, the tap was SKF and the coils seem to be stainless - I've used it loads of times and its been great - 3.99 well spent.

I like Gedore. Nice impact sockets and I use a couple of their punches and chisels.
But I have bust a few things (NOT through misuse of any kind) like circlip pliers and recently a socket, the make(s) have been either Stahlwille, Gedore or Carolus (not sure which ones but I know they're one of those makes) - the latter make excellent hex keys which seem to be lasting far better than some SO I bought...
Have yet to bust any SO circlip pliers which can't be said for others I have used. They'll be warrantied when the time eventually comes.

I've just bought a couple of pairs of SO circlip pliers
They are quite nifty things cos you just rotate the central knob to switch em over between inners and outers
They have pulled a few procon pump face clips out now which takes a considerable amount of pressure so they seem to be doing ok. Only time will tell I suppose.

For decent price spanners i quite like RS components own brand, sockets ect bacho are decent. Personally i wouldn't touch silverline.

I have seen them and thought they looked good. Perhaps they weren't out when I bought my gear because my set use a thumbscrew for the change.

Took my Son to a flea market last year, he wandered around and managed to buy a 1/4 drive Britool socket et, AF & BA with all the bits in the original tin for £5!
He has now bought the 3/8 set and the 1/2 set ( Just Metric marked up Aero?) well he has the tins but lots of missing stuff, we have a look when we go to the car boot for the missing bits and are slowly fining them, he likes the idea its so old and will last for ever
