Nope I'm squeeky clean , she's got nowt on me I never tell her the truth just a guilt trip, her and hubby both
accountants ( shes more qualified though ) and fairly well off (minted ) shes no fool

It's not just accountants that are dodgy. 8 years after I retired I had an out of the blue tax demand. Phoned Her Majesties Robbing C's and spent a pleasant hour going thro the details and ended up with a final figure and one exasperated operator . when she was done I politely asked if the demand was out of time and if it was legal to charge me. very long stony silence followed by Oh yes you are right . sorry and rang off. haven't enjoyed myself so much since. It was raining and it got me out of a job I didn't want to do.

I need a book keeper and an accountant because I just can’t/won’t sit there and do it. Stuffing everything into a bin bag and getting it to them on time is as far as I go

got sick of doing it myself and hired my sister to do it, she was already doing end of year accounts anyway... comes out weekly/fortnightly depending what needs doing

so much easier, think it's £27 an hour, she just helps herself... makes life so much easier, sorts a load of admin etc. stuff while she's on

Ha Ha mine have just gone today to , I do twelve envelope . Eldest gets the velopes and B/ statements spread sheets it all on the puter then emailed to Sis who bangs it in. They'll be done between crimbo and new year and a nice tax refund on it's way to lucky old me

I managed to get all my paperwork to the accountant last month, and found out last week I'll be getting a tax refund, which did prompt me down a rabbit hole of what I could buy to alleviate some of this years profits...

I do all my own accounts, vat registered as well. Its not difficult

I remember when they swapped to doing VAT returns online... I was working but my dad did the accounts

I'd had a good few long days and was knackered... wanted to go to bed, dad kept pushing me to do VAT return instead

I did it half asleep.... printed it out after and gave it to my dad and went to bed... he woke me up pretty quick when he read the print out, instead of them owing us money we owed them £180,000

he didn't push me to do it when I was tired again :-)

We sadly lost our accountant this year aged only 61 and he was a decent guy, always fair but we never had any issues or hassle, he found us a new guy that he trained and worked with who is just as good and a fair price, he kept his illness quiet right till the last few days we will miss him and how he used to laugh at our joke of a paper trail...

Many years ago, about 50, I had a motorcycle shop and after calling it a day I handed all my books, receipts etc to a mates mate who was a trainee accountant to sort out to give the tax man. Unfortunately he died suddenly but nobody knew where my stuff was. You cannot believe the problems I had over the next few years with the Inland revenue, bailiffs, tribunal and so on. Lesson learned, next time I was self employed ……

It was nothing personal , but Bankers have been used to it for decades.

And I reserve the right to be all "Bah, humbug" around this time of year - wouldn't be so bad if the 'festivities' didn't start three months in advance.

By 'festivities' I assume you are meaning advertising and all that goes with it. It has to start early to give them time to bleed the gullible dry, it wouldn't do to get to Xmas day and have people with money in their pockets.
