No, it means I don't wish to pay £100/hour. Just a reasonably priced hobbiest or retired welder who wants to make a bit of money.Odd way of asking for help (?)
Everything we do by-and-for-ourselves is "DIY" but I assume you're asking if someone else will do it...
"On a DIY basis" does that also mean you don't want to pay someone else to do the work?
Hmm...
Many thanks for that Bourbon, it is much appreciated.welcome to the forum
yes welcome , dont think anybody meant to be derisory just trying to sus out what actual work you want to get sorted , its easy to misread wether some one wants advice or actually wants some one to do a job for them full stop , regards price its a difficult thing to do "hobby" /favours for people , as in a decent mig will be £750 upwards , then you have wire /gas and all the ppe you need with out all the other clamps /jigs needed , so consider some ones spent a fare old wedge on kit I dont think they are going to keen on doing several hours work on mates rates , its quite understandable from your side that you dont want to be lets say to be polite , taken the rip out of financially , but there should be a happy medium where the welder covers his costs and a wage and you get a decent job at a fair price. Often if you look on facebook there are guys local that offer welding , might be worth a look as closer they are to you the better the price could be (considering transport costs)Many thanks for that Bourbon, it is much appreciated.
Pictures would help aleviate & clarify allot of this request.Does anyone in the Wakefield area do mig weldiing on a DIY basis to weld up my wrought iron railings parts into fencing?
Many thanks in anticipation of your help. Paul
Hi, many thanks for that. As regards the work, it requires a welder capable of welding a 14mm diameter rod into a 15mm diameter hole in a 40mm x 8mm piece of flat bar. No jigs required to be made, no fancy work, just a competent welder's job. 99 spindles and 6 posts are involved. I'm not looking for a fixed price quotation at this stage, just someone who would be interested in carrying out the work which will not involve a business with high overheads of bank loans, business rates, employer's NI contributions, VAT etc. etc.. Someone who may or may not have an expensive piece of kit stood around doing nothing and waiting for another small home project to happen along.yes welcome , dont think anybody meant to be derisory just trying to sus out what actual work you want to get sorted , its easy to misread wether some one wants advice or actually wants some one to do a job for them full stop , regards price its a difficult thing to do "hobby" /favours for people , as in a decent mig will be £750 upwards , then you have wire /gas and all the ppe you need with out all the other clamps /jigs needed , so consider some ones spent a fare old wedge on kit I dont think they are going to keen on doing several hours work on mates rates , its quite understandable from your side that you dont want to be lets say to be polite , taken the rip out of financially , but there should be a happy medium where the welder covers his costs and a wage and you get a decent job at a fair price. You just didn’t read his first post correctly.I was still waiting for your reply on what your after but you never said what your wanting
adjustment of previous gates
these gates need adjusting to much bigger size they need to be adjusted by 10" either side and im thinking its best to add on at the hinge side of these to get what is wanted by using 10mm bar to gain the extra size and either a round bar in the space or just using the 10mm bar the round pins...www.mig-welding.co.uk
Anyone with a ring roller?
As thread title really. Anyone with a ring roller fancy making four rings from 10mm mild steel round bar? They would need to be 53/4" [or 145mm] in outside diameter. I've checked Brundles and Googled for availability but can find nothing in that specific size :( I think they would finish off...www.mig-welding.co.uk

id put it in a jig so that every fence panel was the samerequires a welder capable of welding a 14mm diameter rod into a 15mm diameter hole in a 40mm x 8mm piece of flat bar. No jigs required to be made, no fancy work, just a competent welder's job. 99 spindles and 6 posts are involved.![]()
i was curious enough to check if it was a small fence welding jobYou just didn’t read his first post correctly.![]()
Read the post!!!!id put it in a jig so that every fence panel was the same
neither the mig welders would touch that thickness even a 195 wouldnt touch that thickness
so its down to an arc welder
i was curious enough to check if it was a small fence welding job
but that last posts well and truly states there after a full welding fence job to be done
I was still waiting for your reply on what your after but you never said what your wanting
Exactly!I think it is quite obvious what they are wanting.
They want a non-professional welder to go to their property, supply all the tools of a professional welder, do the job of a professional welder, turn a pile of second hand wrought iron into a fence and all in exchange for half a jar of peanuts and the satisfaction of having done a favour for a random stranger on the internet.
Ooooorrrr, Gaz is suggesting it as an alternative as well asExactly!
Gaz seems to be under the impression the OP is looking to buy a welder to do the job himself.
