Messing around with my old dubvan bought some rusty paint , you flat off whatever you are painting, degrease, mix the hardener in it slap it on, brush, roller or spray.
ItsI two pack in a mid brown with metal filings in it
Once dry you flat it off with scotch pads or a da if your careful.
You are supposed to get It to a sparkling sheen, I suppose you are taking the top layer off and filing to expose the metel flakes in it.
Then wash the dust off, apparently important,
Then spray with an activator supplied.
It's a bag of white powder to be mixed with water and misted on,pro probably salt, citric acid or similar.
It's up to you then how much you apply and what else you chuck on,salt ,ammonia, peroxide , apparently you can get different effects depending.
Anyway, it's not the cheapest, all power to the lads trying to get this off the ground, there's a lot of interest in the fake rust, patina retro rat rod look and its better than rusting a wing ect for real.
Just fancy making my own a bit cheaper. So what do you reckon,is it just two pack primer with metal dust in, which is easily available ,or am I missing something?
I have just conducted a little experiment with some spare gloss two pack and a load of filings that I collected with a welding magnet off the workshop floor , mixed it up and slapped it on some scrap, going to sand it tomorrow and activate it.
Also I know spraying 2pack is a nono because of the isocyanate but this is sold to be rolled on ,safe or not?
