DIY alternative to WD40 ?

I received my acetone yesterday £12.95 delivered from Ebay for 5L

I bought the same, tried it on my meddings drill pillar which was seized at the top ,left it for couple of days then after walking the drill across a concrete floor (25ft ) and bolting it down , I noticed that the drill head had moved a millimetre down the pillar, not sure whether it was the jolting or the atf mix or just both , it wont swing side to side yet though

If your using penetrating oil to free up seized nuts and bolts then a good home brew concoction is a 50:50 mix of ATF and acetone.

I came across this a while back and looked it up on the net. Some scientists have deliberately sized some nuts and bolts by soaking for a week in sulphuric acid then applied a variety of commercial and home brew fluids and measured the tourque required to free up. The ATF/acetone mix was a winner each time, plus much much cheaper.

I now have some in a wash bottle and can report it works a treat.

It's a funky reddish pink colour and tends to separate a little when stored, just give it a shake before use and I can report it realy does work. Give it a go and it will be interesting to see what some of you folks think

You should be able to get acetone at any fibreglass supply store, GRP boat builders/repairers factory or at any fibreglass factory really.

just made up a sprayer bottle full and yes it does separate quite quickly not used it yet though

so when youd come back to it it needs a shake ya?
would it also separate in the little plastic pipe going to the head too then so, so the first few pumps wouldn't be what youd want.
im overthinking it arnt i..

yes it probably would mate so pure acetone first few sprays

and then some more neat atf.
i have the ingredients here just never got round to the mix yet, ill hardly be pumping away at it to get the good stuff, they can both chat away when they get to where there going.

i must give it a spin some time to see what all the fuss is about.
