Distorted 1mm metal panel

Hello there every one,
i'm new to this so bear with me. I've tack welded an 18" by 12" 1mm steel panel into my vw split screen camper.I've butt welded it on one of the 18" sides and two of the 12" sides but the other 18" side has got distorted.I used my welder on the lowest speed and the lowest setting and used cold water and a rag on each tack but it still destorted,is there any way of getting the panel straight again?It seems to be ok near the top but like the north sea at the bottom.(HELP)

Hi there,

Have you tacked the panel all the way around? I personally tack every 30mm before carrying on and joining up the dots. I would also recommend the stitch weld technique when working on such thin panel work " see link below" Do a small section before going to the opososite furthest point and doing a small section there allowing time for the metal to cool, don't rush it. I agree spot weld about every inch all the way around then go and fill the gaps
and you will end up somthink like this.

No good Ado, Your have probably stuffed your bus! Now your just going to have to send it over to me (I am restoring a 68 lowlight)

If you have popped the sheet out, maybe you can get in behind it with a dolly and panel beat it back into shape? It should have stretched just from heat. So unless you really wallop it it should stay the same size and go back in.
