The stress riser is on the outside, where the relief is designed for the jaw to close. The diamond cutout serves no purpose other than weight saving, but also doesn't lose much strength since the main tensile stress is on the outside.
Looks weaker overall than a proper adjustable, though. I wonder if it was just bad luck of if they are all a bit weaker than they should be?
How is it to use over a good bahco?
Should be warranty with Knipex , I always liked the look of those pliers wrench but at the price I cant think of what I would actually do with one ,,, or two.
update us how the warranty goes
disappointing to see , i still like mine though , was you giving it some grunt at the time or no?
Not sure I agree fully with this, though I do agree some older stuff is better - quality tools are still quality tools, and advances in material science/design etc mean things keep sharp for longer, or just work better - obviously there are exceptions and cheap tat is still just that, I’m not trying to defend that. I think people tend to forget some of the junk that was produced in the past, obviously the old stuff that is still around and has survived is the good stuff, so worth searching out.I had a similar experience with a set of Dewalt drills. I got the 8mm out to use it , put it in the chuck and it actually fell in half without ever getting close to the metal. Clean break with no sign of having been stressed or bent. Tools aren't the same any more. That's why I hunt out old tools that are made of metal and not the modern ones that look and feel like they've been 3D printed in a plastics foundry.
I've got the 150mm version and very rarely use any other plier, the jaws only move a few mm for the full swing of the handle so at the tip they grip much harder than normal pliers. They've also taken about 8 years of abuse and other than the chrome peeling off the jaw surface, they're like new.I can’t see the point of them personally
Knipex will warranty those.
I can’t see the point of them personally.
But if you really want to see quality pliers I will post some photos
