Discovery 3 amigos hub problem ?

So since having the car its had intermittent low output right front ABS sensor problems triggering the three amigos. A while back I changed the sensor for a new one (the original looked like an original part, and it was shimmed up to the hub). Got round to clearing the fault code with my new hawkeye, set off on my merry way, and didnt get anywhere due to the traction control kicking in.

Thought it may have been incorrect tyre pressures but no such luck. Looking at the live data, the new front right sensor isnt giving a wheel speed reading.

Ive disconnected the sensor again for now to deliberately trigger the amigos, so its at least useable Is it new hub with sensor time ?

Never had any luck swapping sensors. Cheap hubs and consider them consumables

I have a couple of the £80ish bearmach hubs on mine. They are on about 60k and 40k miles each.

I beleive the reluctor rings can crack and cause an intermittent bad reading and its rarely the sensor at fault.

A few things to check.

1. Try reseating the sensor, if they are too high you get no reading, can take the oring of to try seating better as a test.
2. Can you swop the front sensors to see if the fault moves?
3. Can be chaffed wiring or a faulty plug, best to check.
4. If all else fails, hubs.

I have the same system on my Defender and it is pretty reliable, have replaced a sensor, hubs and the abs block over the years though.

More than a few years ago now, but when I had a disco 2 had loads of bother with the three amigos rings sensors even hubs ! the problem wasn't solved until the faulty abs pump changed , it just so happens that every time there was a fault it came up as right front . every time you pulled hard right into syt a parking bay the abs would fire of and also on small roundabouts , luckily I didnt have to pay for it as it was in the last 3 months of it's warranty .

ABS SENSOR 3 AMIGOS FIX

I’d fitted an aftermarket sensor. When the fault code was cleared, the traction control was triggering on the left front.
Hawkeye was reading no road speed output from the new sensor.

Started by checking the wiring from the sensor socket to the SLABS ECU. Which was ok.

Next connected the oscilloscope to the nearside sensor, which was teading a nice clean sine wave when the nearside wheel was rotated.

Checking the offside sensor showed no output.

Removed the aftermarket sensor. I think the problem is that there is a step on the sensor body that is preventing it seating properly in the sensor bore.

Connected the scope to the old sensor which I hadnt binned. Waggling a screwdriver in front of it gave a nice output. So Ive cleaned the old sensor and refitted it. Fault cleared and it drives ok with no traction control issues.

Also pulled out the squeaky heater blower and lubricated the bearings.
