Disco 1 issue

On my jobs to do list it find out why my horn, rear wipe, and gear selector lights as well as cruise control don’t work.
It seems fuse 18 is the culprit, Iv changed it twice and tested it and it with the rear wiper and it blew right away twice.

After a bit of googling I’m still none the wiser

Has anyone else come across this

I am guessing you have a short on one of the items on that circuit: rear wash and wipe, mirrors, auto selector Ilumination and cruise control. I would leave the fuse out and disconnect each looking for a short in the component or checking the plug to the component to see if there is a short in the wiring. I have not had this fault before, there may be a known issue.

Did it blow when you switched the rear wiper on? If so then you have a fault on that circuit and can troubleshoot from there, unplug the wiper motor and try again - if it blows then the fault is with the switch or wiring before it, if not then it may be within the motor itself.

As above, separate into individual circuits and test one at a time until something blows. Seems the rear wiper is the issue, they can and usually do seize solid so could well be drawing much more to try and turn

On the freelander it jammed and burnt out, glad the fuse popped or I would have had a fire

Does sound like the rear wiper if it pops the fuse as soon as you press the button. Horn and gear selector could be powered through the same fuse, try putting another fuse in DONT press the wiper button and see if the horn or selector lights work to test if they are on the same fuse.

If the wiper motor isnt seized does the wiring for the rear wipe pass from the body into the rear door? Its quite common on all vehicles for wires to eventually rub through the insulation or snap as they flex each time the door is opened and closed. Boot lids or rear doors are quite susceptible as they open wider than side doors so more flex.

This is the first issue Iv had being a Land Rover it will be its last...

You did not need me - several people above had already suggested what you need to know.

Unplug the rear wiper - put a new fuse in.

Strip the rear wiper motor and de seize.




Oh... If you do need any wiring diagrams - I got them all for these early Disco's
