I have had this a while

I have now got a 3TB drive to clone to an 8TB drive but it's taken 2 days so far and the first light is still the only one flashing.
If this normal?

What type of drives and is the 3TB drive full of data?

Do you have low-level format enabled for the destination drive? Disable that or you'll die of old age before it's done.

No interface. Just SATA to SATA in the cloning station.

It does have USB connection for connection to a computer. It then acts like an external drive.
But when cloning it does not go through a computer.

The 3TB has no more than 2TB on it as its a copy of my Dropbox storage.

I doubt it as I don't even know how to do that.
The cloning box is a single button press. No alteration to settings can be made.

And not necessary on modern drives.

What type of HDs are you cloning from/to?

And are you cloning an OS at the same time?

usb cloning takes forever whilst sata cloning is way faster

ive just done 3 hard drives done all the same way acconis make an image whilst its sata pluged all done in less than 1 hr

then played install the g card which i had fun with as it wanted updates and was refusing to install without errors reimaged it again tried it with earlier install files and still errored so just used another operating system made an image
pluged in another ssd and was installed and running in 6mins

Amiga was great for cloning pc disks as well using directory opus!

WD red 3.0 tb

To seagate exos 8.0TB

No OS. It's just files I have in Dropbox around 1.5TB.

Its not USB cloning as I understand it. The box is not plugged into a computer.

To answer your original question, yes it can take a long time.

You're using the word " cloning " but what exactly are you doing, I understand you are going from 3 to 8 but what are you attempting?

Copying from the 3TB drive to the 8TB.
But.......i gave up doing that for now.

I used the cloning box to clone my Crucial 500gig to my new 1TB.

I learnt a lot... Lol. I need to read disc faults more carefully.
The disc software was actually telling me a Samsung 660 was faulty (it's not even in the PC)
So the crucial is fine.

I cloned the crucial and realised it does indeed clone the disc but also the size. So I now have unused space. I will address that now.

Now I am happy I have a spare C drive . I am actually adding the 8TB to my single disc synology NAS. So once installed I will just let Drop box populate the NAS.


BTW the cloning of the SSD using the box only took 15 mins.

It could be that there's an error happening that this simple box can't communicate to you? Perhaps try formatting the destination drive in a computer and then attempt transfer again?

It was easier just to install the 8tb drive to the NAS and let it sync with Dropbox. But thanks anyway.

Used it for years. A bit clunky but the sync is the best I have found to access files and work locally from various places.
2tb storage for £7.99.

I cloned my 32gig ssd in the laptop to up it to 250gig by putting the new drive into an enclosure and using Minitool partition wizard. I can't remember how long it took but it was a painless process. I put the old drive in the enclosure to use as an external drive.

as above, really like dropbox, I'm not sure what I pay, I think I'm on the cheapest plan, 2tb storage (looking now I think they dropped the cheap plan to 1tb)

I really begrudge paying for things like that, I'd rather host myself

but it's really handy for work, essentially use it to store all invoices/delivery notes etc. (and a load of other stuff)

the recover deleted files / restore previous versions functions are really really handy, especially when other people have access and make a mess of things


used the free version for years and it was more than good enough..... had a frustrating day once and needed more space to transfer stuff around when other things weren’t working so paid the subscription for more storage
