I'm wondering if this might be an expensive way to buy it though, as I've already got through one bottle but not done much welding, so I would be happy for recommendations

Ive never used one but understand they are best avoided because of the short duration of them

As above, look for 'rent free' gas.

At £17.50 for 57L (0.95L x 60Bar), the Halfords one works out at 30p/L. (And it's 80% argon which should be cheaper than 95% argon.)

The last SGS refill of 95% Argon/CO2 I had was £57 for 2000L (10L x 200Bar) = 2.8p/L

You do have to pay a deposit on the first cylinder of £96, but at 10 L/min gas flow, you will have saved that in the first 35 minutes of welding (and you get the deposit back when you hand the cylinder back).
