Dinse plug adaptors ?

Are they rated in any way? I.E. 10/25 up to X amps? It's just that I've got 35mm cable in a 10/25 plug.

I would assume that they are rated to the same extent as the maximum size of cable they are designed for. Though to be honest unless you're welding constantly at 100% duty cycle you're unlikely to do any damage to the wire. There's a area/amps chart here.

Basically there are only two Dinse sizes, small (9 mm) and large (13 mm). There's a third size, 15 mm if I remember correctly, but it' s quite unusual.

Smallest 13 mm connector is for 25 - 35 mm² cable which is what you should go for. Biggest 9 mm version is for 25 mm² cable, that combination would be best (using 25 mm² cable).

35 mm² cable in a 10/25 connector is difficult to fit and usually a waste of money. From 200 amps up it's the 13 mm Dinse, 35 mm² cable is overkill for low amps.

Chevyman, I'm afraid your reply made me curious so I looked them up! There are definitely four sizes of Dinse plug. I'm not sure about the mm measurements as I've never heard them referred to in that way. Perhaps that's a European thing? Anyway, the sizes are on page five here. Actually the area/amp details are there too.

I'm pretty sure the 9mm and 13mm that chevyman is talking about is the diameter of the male part of the connector.

Recently I fit sockets on my welders so I could swap and change. I bought the small ones. I don't use big amps and if I use above 150 amps it would only be for one small run so I'm sure they'll be fine.

I have a heap of "adaptors" using about 300mm cable with various fittings on the cable ends, Dinse, bolt on terminals etc., males females, covers all the bases
Can setup any machine quickly and easily

I looked it up as well. The three size are 9, 13 and 15 mm. And yes,that's the diameter of the male side of the plug.

Here is a list of the different versions, listed as connector size / cable range / inner diameter of bore for cable:

- 9 mm / 16 - 25 mm² / 9 mm
- 13 mm / 25 - 35 mm² / 11 mm
- 13 mm / 35 - 50 mm² /13 mm
- 13 mm / 50 - 70 mm² / 15 mm
- 13 mm / 70 - 95 mm² / 17 mm
- 15 mm / 95 - 120 mm² / 18 mm

The cable should be as big as possible for the connector. For example a 50 mm² cable should be used with a 35 -50 mm² connector.
