Every time I see that annoying Dyson advert, that's the thought which runs through my head. Saying that, this is the bloke who seems to like to make people believe he invented the cyclonic vacuum system too, so it's hardly surprising he's trying to hog the glory for motors too now.

there is no such motor, digital is binary and a motor cant run on binary a false claim

I think my response to Sir James, (the other thing with advertising is that it isn't easy to reply to it) would be, "Never mind the marginal advantages of a digital motor, what about the more immediate problem of all the plastic bits which break and have to be superglued or bought at vast expense?"

The world is analog. Any time a digital system interacts with the physical world the results become analog. Could equally be argued that the voltage levels within the digital systems are analog also....

I don't know whether he invented it or not. I don't have a TV and my internet adventures haven't confronted me with vacuum cleaner ads. I've only seen what's been said on here and it strikes me as distinctly dubious. He seems to have been the first to apply cyclonic systems to vacuum cleaners. I've got a couple of his cleaners and they are not bad apart from the plastic bits which break.

I've formed no opinion of Dyson and know little about him. Of the few I've met, self made millionaires have been invariably smug gits. Well, they've got something to be smug about.

True. I can remember the adverts being somewhat misleading generally though, unless I just tend to be overly pessimistic or skeptical.

I got annoyed about dyson adverts saying they had "no loss of suction", when I was doing some flow testing on a cylinder head, I had a dyson dc04 vaccum cleaner and an earlex (wickes) wet/dry vaccum cleaner. the earlex had 6 times the vaccum of the dyson, so while the dyson may not have had a loss of suction, it didnt have much suck in the first place..... a bit off topic, but have some pics of a proper use for vacuum cleaners

He shook up the vacuum cleaner world and produced a pretty good product. A lot of me toos appeared afterwards.

Dyson strikes me as a practical version of Clive Sinclair; his stuff is less "visionary", undeniably works and is fit for purpose. Pity about the breaking off plastic bits.

I's say my hero in the appliance world was John Bloom who shook up the complacent and stitched up washing machine market in the early 60s.

That's how I did my shovelhead heads.
Pity I hadn't taken pictures, I started doing it one night after the pub shut and my first attempt to make
port moulds were with raspberry jelly;-)

The thing with advertising is that it aims to disarm critical thought, in fact slyly suggest that anything of the sort is clearly ridiculous.

I was thinking that myself earlier as I made myself an Omega-3 butty, washed it down with some Taurine and went off to wash my hair in penta-peptides and liposomes.

I have used Dyson's since they were new, now have some V12 hepa filtered auto floor thing, ok I don't know what it actually is but it was worth it's ridiculous price tag because A. My floors are always clean and B. The cleaner never complains
Over the years I've only replaced some flexi hose but on one of them, which only get upgraded because she wants the new model, I think all of my old ones are in use by various relatives

I also have a German industrial wet vac, originally bought for work but now used to clean the car, as it has a massive lead and doesn't need an extension. It probably has more power than my Dyson, but it sounds like a German industrial wet vac.............

I had the same issue too, I went for alginate which is the stuff dentists use to take a mould from your teeth with.

although it does look like angel delight, so that would go well with your jelly.

Well if we're talking vacuum cleaners...
I have a Vax 121 wet'n'dry that I bought second-hand in about 1989. It's had a new mains lead and new motor brushes and that's it, it just keeps going.

Dyson is one of the largest landowners in the uk. 25,000 acres he owns , compared to the Queens 20,000. Pity he cannot actually make his vacuums in the uk, rather than the far east.
